Frankfurt Airport owner Fraport Group has reported revenue at its Retail & Real Estate division of €266.4 million in the first nine months, a fall of -2.7% year-on-year. But net retail revenue per passenger rose by +1.9% in the period, to €2.76. Read

At its World Annual General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur this week Airports Council International threw its weight behind the continuation of airport duty free tobacco sales. All governments must safeguard the interests of passengers and the rights of airports and retailers by opposing any ban on the lawful business of duty free sales, it resolved. Read

Delhi International Airport Delhi High Court rejects Flemingo challenge to DIAL and Alpha Future concession deal
The Delhi High Court this week dismissed a challenge by Flemingo against a duty free contract renegotiation and subsequent settlement between GMR-led Delhi International Airport Limited and incumbent retailer Alpha Future at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The case, Flemingo's first legal defeat against a private airport operator, is considered to have major significance in Indian aviation circles. Read

Bristol Changing of the guard at Bristol Airport as World Duty Free takes over from Nuance
Bristol International Airport saw a changing of the retail guard over last weekend as Autogrill subsidiary WDF, trading under the World Duty Free fascia, took over operations from The Nuance Group. Now the real work begins as WDF plots an ambitious new 1,076sq m walkthrough store, due for completion at the UK airport by next spring. Read

IATA Passenger demand levels out in September; but 'too early to call this a recovery' says IATA
Scheduled passenger demand among the world's airlines rose by +0.3% year-on-year in September, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reported. But IATA Director General and CEO Giovanni Bisignani says: "It is far too early to call this a recovery. The worst may be over in terms of the fall in demand, but yields continue to be a disaster and costs are rising." Read

Rémy Cointreau Global Travel Retail launched its Rémy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask Cognac with a fanfare at the TFWA World Exhibition. Louis XIII Rare Cask is a "supremely rare" limited-edition Cognac, drawn from a single cask. Each bottle retails at about €10,000. Read

Japan Tobacco International is celebrating its tenth year of operations in 2009, with a major investment in building consumer awareness of the tobacco offer in travel retail. L’Oréal L’Oréal Paris presents Studio Secrets Professional make-up collection
L’Oréal Paris will develop its focus on colour in 2010, with the introduction of Studio Secrets Professional, described as the brand's first professional make-up collection. The line was presented at last month's TFWA World Exhibition. Also on show in Cannes was a new travel-retail gondola for L’Oréal's The Body Shop brand. Read 
Versace Versace issues new jewellery collection
Vertime SA, which oversees the manufacture and worldwide distribution of Versace watches and jewellery, showcased the Italian label's travel retail collection at the TFWA World Exhibition last month. The company also presented new sunglasses models from the Spring/Summer 2010 collections. Read

Scandinavian Tobacco Group, manufacturer of cigar, pipe and fine cut tobacco, launched a number of new products and line extensions at TFWA World Exhibition as it bids to grow its market share, particularly in the aromatic and flavoured cigar and cigarillo segments. Read

La Prairie La Prairie extends Platinum anti-ageing range and introduces Life Threads scent trio
La Prairie previewed a new addition to its super-premium Platinum skincare collection at last month's TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes. Cellular Serum Platinum Rare will begin its worldwide roll-out in February 2010. In other news, La Prairie has just begun rolling out a new fragrance trio called Life Threads. Passenger traffic volumes at the world's airports increased by an encouraging +1.6% year-on-year in September; the growth was driven by a +4.4% surge in domestic market traffic, while international traffic remains down; ACI World Director General Angela Gittens says: "[This] may signal a sustained trend since domestic traffic is often a precursor to international traffic recovery." Copenhagen Airports' Shopping Centre revenue hits DKK404.9 million (US$80.5 million) in the first nine months of 2009, down by just -0.9% on the same period in 2008; and despite weak overall revenues in Q3, duty free revenue per passenger grows by +3.3% over a year earlier, says owner MAp Airports. PATA Positive trends for Asia Pacific tourism – ‘but treat figures with caution’ warns PATA
The Pacific Asia Travel Association says that the number of international visitors to the Asia Pacific region improved by +0.5% year-on-year during August. That's a welcome improvement on earlier months, but the association warned that the figures are flattering because of the late-2008 travel downturn. Read
