Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) opened Abu Dhabi International Airport's new Terminal 3 earlier this week with a stunning upscale retail offer that will clearly rank in the highest echelons of the business worldwide. The terminal also conveys a striking Sense of Place. "We mixed luxury with tradition and hope you will feel that," said ADAC Chairman Khalifa Mohamed Al Mazrouei in an interview with The Moodie Report. Read

ARI-ME reacts cautiously as Bahrain anti-liquor drive gains impetus
Aer Rianta International-Middle East (ARI-ME), which manages Bahrain Duty Free, has reacted cautiously to a parliamentary vote to ban alcohol sales at Bahrain International Airport. While the vote needs Cabinet approval to become law, the issue has potentially major repercussions for jobs and revenues at the airport, says ARI-ME Managing Director John Sutcliffe. Read

World Duty Free World Duty Free enhances recruitment quality with ResourceBank
Ever since World Duty Free partnered UK-based outsourcing company ResourceBank on the staff recruitment for London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, the travel retailer has seen related costs reduced by a quarter, higher retention rates, and an increase in the percentage of candidates accepting the job positions offered – from 70% to 95%. Dubrovnik Airport Dubrovnik Airport posts +8% increase in duty free sales in 2008 as average transaction values rise sharply
Dubrovnik Airport turned in another strong duty free performance last year, with sales up by +8% to €7,709,589 (US$9.9 million), well ahead of the +4.0% increase in international passengers. The increase was driven by a +6.5% increase in the average transaction. Read
TJI Japanese travel falls sharply in 2008
Japanese overseas travel dipped by -7.6% to 15.9 million in 2008 compared to 2007 according to preliminary year-end figures released by the Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO), and reported by Travel Journal International (TJI) Online. It's the second successive year of declining outbound traffic. Read
Auckland Airport Auckland International Airport posts marginal year-on-year passenger growth in 2008
Auckland International Airport handled 7.48 million international passengers in the 12 months to December 2008, up by +1.5% on the previous year; long-haul arrivals fell sharply in December, though Australian passenger numbers rose strongly in the month. Read
Munich Airport Munich Airport posts new passenger record in 2008; maintains multi-billion Euro plans
Munich Airport handled a new annual record of 35.4 million passengers in 2008, up by +2% on 2007. This was driven partly by strong increases in traffic to Asia Pacific and to Eastern Europe. CEO Michael Kerkloh admits that 2009 will be "difficult", but says it "won't curb the long-term growth dynamic of Munich Airport". Read
ACI ACI: Global traffic climbs marginally in 2008 after “turbulent and sobering year”
A strong first quarter helps offset declining traffic later in the year as Airports Council International (ACI) reports passenger volumes up by +2.1% in 2008 compared to 2007; ACI warns that traffic could dip by as much as -4% year-on-year in 2009. Read
