UAE. Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has appointed one of the airport industry's most highly regarded senior executives, Rudy Vercelli, as Chief Executive Officer, effective 20 March.

Rudy Vercelli: ADAC's first CEO reporting to the Board of Directors
He will become ADAC's first CEO, reporting to the Board of Directors. ADAC said Vercelli brings exceptional experience in aviation and airport management. He has had a successful career developing and managing growing airports, including Doha, Buenos Aires and Mumbai International, it noted.

Meanwhile ADAC is expected to confirm another high-level appointment next week - of the much-respected Hans Bakker as Commercial Director. Bakker is the long-time Commercial Director of Airport Authority Hong Kong. More details of the latter appointment as they come to hand.

Vercelli will direct a major development plan for expanding the overall airport infrastructure at Abu Dhabi and Al Ain airports in order to meet the demands of its booming aviation market and ambitious owners.

Vercelli has been Chief Operating Officer at Mumbai International Airport since 2006, where he has been responsible for the strategic leadership and vision involved in building an efficient and effective airport company [and overseeing one of the most ambitious and complex airport modernisations in the world -Ed].

Hans Bakker: His appointment will be another great ADAC coup
He established, implemented and delivered against the long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies of the company, while developing value-creation for shareholders, according to ADAC.

Welcoming the appointment, ADAC Chairman and Managing Director H.E. Khalifa Al Mazrouei said: "The Board is delighted that Rudy Vercelli is joining ADAC at this important stage in its development. ADAC has a key role in developing the aviation industry in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Mr Vercelli's credentials and experience will be invaluable.

“He will play a key role in the future development of ADAC and provide leadership, expertise and insight to the challenges of building a world class gateway for Abu Dhabi and developing aviation facilities in the Emirate as a whole."

Vercelli commented: "It is a great honour to join ADAC, a company at the heart of the most vibrant aviation market in the world. I'm excited at the opportunities and potential before us – the fastest growing airline networks with record airplane acquisitions, combined with the largest simultaneous airport infrastructure development in aviation history.

“I am confident that ADAC can continue to strengthen and increase its market share in airport management and aviation-related businesses, and contribute to the Emirate's long-term prosperity," he added.
