UK. To mark the opening of London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 on 27 March, William Grant & Sons has created Hazelwood Reserve, a 17yo single malt whisky exclusively available at the new terminal’s World of Whisky stores.
Matured in sherry casks at the family’s Kininvie Distillery, Hazelwood Reserve has a limited quantity of 500 bottles. It will be elegantly packaged in clear glass and will retail at £350 per bottle.
The hand-distilled single malt whisky has a nutty aroma, with notes of dried fruit and an intense flavour of oaky spice, according to the company.
Created by David Stewart, William Grant & Son’s Malt Master, Hazelwood Reserve honours the contribution of Janet Sheed Roberts to the family company. Janet, granddaughter to William Grant, will be celebrating her 107th birthday this August. Since 1933, she has lived at Hazelwood House, close to The Kininvie Distillery in Speyside, which she opened in 1990.
William Grant & Sons Regional Manager for Europe Peter Eves commented: “William Grant & Sons is a family company so it is only natural to celebrate the longevity of Janet Sheed Roberts’ amazing life with this unique whisky. As Hazelwood Reserve is the distillery’s first single malt on sale, what better time to launch it than at the exciting opening of Terminal 5.”
World Duty Free Head of Category for Liquor, Food and Tax Free items Fraser Dunlop added: “We are excited that our passengers will be the first to experience this exclusive whisky. With only 500 bottles available, we encourage whisky enthusiasts to arrive early at the airport to snap up this great opportunity.”
