TURKEY. TAV Airports Holding, the leading Turkish airports group, has reported a +13% surge in first-half (January to June) passenger numbers year-on-year across its national and international operations, to a total of 21.25 million.
The figures were buoyed by a +15% surge in international passengers to 12.5 million – good news for the group’s ATÜ Duty Free joint venture – plus an increase of +11% in domestic passenger volumes, to 8.65 million.
Across all of Turkey’s airports, including those not operated by TAV, passenger numbers in the half climbed by a robust +19% to 39.36 million.
There was good growth at TAV’s key airports, notably Istanbul Atatürk International, where passenger numbers rose by +10% to 14.95 million. International passenger volumes grew by +13% with domestic volumes up by +5% on H1 2009.
At Ankara Esenboga total traffic climbed by +24% to 3.5 million, buoyed by a +17% surge in international traffic and a +25% increase in domestic numbers. At Izmir, where TAV operates the International Terminal only, volumes climbed by +23%.
Of the group’s operations outside Turkey, Monastir and Enfidha airports in Tunisia combined posted 1.36 million, down by -3% year-on-year, while Tbilisi Airport in Georgia enjoyed +10% growth to 322,397 and the Macedonian airports of Skopje and Ohrid saw a +13% rise to a total of 302,765.
In June alone TAV total passenger numbers hit 4.28 million, up by +9%, driven by a +12% leap in international volumes (see table).
