IRELAND. The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby took place at The Curragh racecourse in Ireland on Sunday, the third year that the world’s biggest duty free retailer at a single location has sponsored the event.
The main event was won by the Aidan O’Brien-trained Cape Blanco, in front of more than 20,000 spectators at the County Kildare venue. The Dubai Duty Free brand also benefited from huge exposure around the world for one of the flat racing calendar’s biggest days. The company will sponsor the race until 2012 under its current five-year deal.
