HONG KONG. Airport Authority Hong Kong has called an open tender for four restaurants and six food court outlets in the restricted area of East Hall, Terminal 1, at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The tender will close on 12 February 2010 at 11 am, Hong Kong time.

Airport Authority Hong Kong said: “Situated in a high-traffic prime area among prominent international brands which nearly 100% of HKIA’s departing passengers pass through, these catering locations present potential partners with an excellent opportunity to showcase their catering offers to a high volume of worldwide travellers who are eager to make the most of their stay in Hong Kong to experience the best of the city’s international and local flavours.”

Between 1999 and 2008, HKIA F&B sales grew fivefold at a compound annual growth rate of +20%. Within the same period, HKIA also saw robust compound annual sales growth per passenger at +14%.

The number of East Hall food court seats has more than doubled within the past five years. According to the airport's research, nearly 100% of departing passengers and around 80% of transfer/transit passengers pass through the East Hall. Departing passengers’ dwell time is around four hours at HKIA, with an average of over three hours spent within the restricted area.

Airport Authority said: "“An appealing mix of international, local luxury and specialty retail brands at East Hall has always been a significant feature that sustains passengers’ stay and dining needs. With the number of top tier luxury brand boutiques expanding from 28 to 37 in East Hall, HKIA is regarded by most of the surveyed passengers as having the largest number, highest concentration and the greatest variety of luxury boutiques among international airports worldwide. Other international favorites and iconic brands including The Magic of Hong Kong Disneyland can also be found on Level 7 of the revamped East Hall, the same level as the food court and restaurants.”

The airport concluded: “Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) continually strives to attract even better quality local and international brands to add more flavours to HKIA’s catering line up. Recent additions to the Terminal 1 arrivals non-restricted area include Maxim’s Food2, Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao (opening soon in mid-December) and Delifrance.

“HKIA has always been the window of Hong Kong, through which visitors from around the world could see, experience and taste the excellence of the city’s local and international offers. The diversity and combination of offers at HKIA promises that there will always be something for everybody regardless of their needs and spending budget. HKIA and its business partners are committed to a customer pricing promise to ensure that visitors are able to enjoy all of the products and services at HKIA at an equivalent price level as downtown Hong Kong outlets.”
