“For the third month in a row, Sydney traffic grew strongly in both international and domestic segments, with international traffic up +12.5%, helped in part by the school holidays and World Masters Games, and at Copenhagen O&D traffic was also ahead of last year.
“MAp welcomes the additional capacity being brought into Sydney as carriers take advantage of the improved conditions and increased demand for international travel. It’s extremely pleasing to welcome the announcement of Emirates’ third daily service to Dubai.
“Other recent positive international capacity announcements involve V Australia entering the Sydney to Fiji market from mid-December, and Thai Airways and China Eastern both de-linking services to offer additional non-stop services to Bangkok and Shanghai, respectively.”
Mather also highlighted positive route developments at MAp’s European airports. For example, United Airlines has announced that it will operate a daily service from Brussels Airport to Chicago from spring 2010.
She noted: “Following Air Canada’s recent announcement of a new Montreal service and Brussels Airlines’ planned entry into Star Alliance in December, this is a further endorsement of the potential for Brussels Airport to act as a gateway to Star Alliance’s global network of destinations.”
Copenhagen Airport was buoyed by Delta Air Lines’ announcement that it will operatea daily service to New York JFK from May 2010, giving Copenhagen passengers the opportunity to connect with Delta’s extensive route network, Mather added.
